Attention

Dear Students,

In an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19, the Learning Assistance Program has transitioned to serving students in a virtual environment.

LAP Counselors, specialists, and Deaf services are now available to serve you through various methods.  We are able to assist you via telephone, email, online chat, and/or video-conferencing.  Students wishing to "see" their Counselor through video-conferencing are able to do so by using Cranium Café or Zoom.  Both are able to be accessed via a smart phone or a computer. We encourage you to find a method that fits your needs.

LAP Online

We know this is a time of uncertainty and concern for many of you, and we want to reassure you that although we may not be able to offer in-person services at this time, we will continue to be available to assist you.

We are committed to continue to offer excellent services while also protecting the health and safety of our students, faculty, staff, and community.  We thank you and appreciate your flexibility and understanding as we navigate through these challenging times.  Please stay healthy!

For scheduled appointments, Counselors are available via telephone and/or video-conferencing.

If you wish to "see" your Counselor via video-conferencing, you are able to do so using Cranium Café.  At the time of your appointment, you are required to be logged into your myHancock portal and enter Cranium Café.  An email with detailed information will be sent to you once an appointment has been scheduled. You will need to have a webcam and internet connection.  Cranium Café is only compatible with Chrome.

Call 805-922-6966 ext. 3274 for Santa Maria LAP or ext. 5274 for Lompoc LAP to schedule your preferred method of appointment. Please have your H# ready.

If you are already approved for testing accommodations, you do not need to do anything else to continue receiving those accommodations, even in an online classroom. You may want to send an email reminder to your instructor that you have been approved for accommodations, so they can contact our office for assistance if needed.

If you are eligible for test accommodations, and have not requested it for this semester, please contact the office using the methods above to make an appointment with your counselor.

If you are using interpreter or captioning services for instruction, those services will continue to be offered in online courses. If you have any questions, please contact Julia Townsend at julia.townsend@hancockcollege.edu or by video phone at 805-266-7874

If you are currently using note taking as an accommodation, you can continue to do so in any online classes that has live lecture or pre-recorded lecture. The LAP office will be working with note takers to establish how notes will be transferred to students.

If you are utilizing e-text or any assistive hardware/software this term and need assistance, please contact Sarah Easton or Nancy Hernandez.
