- Minimize loss of life and property to the Allan Hancock College community
- Control the emergency situation
- Return the campus to normal operation as quickly as possible
- Ensure that proper disaster recovery procedures are followed
In the event of a campus wide emergency, the president and district superintendent or his/her designee will activate the emergency/disaster plan.
Emergency activities will be coordinated from the emergency operations center (EOC), which has emergency power and communications equipment. Santa Maria's EOC is currently designated as the Building B Captain's Room. The EOC in Lompoc is room 1-103. The EOC director is the president and district superintendent. Santa Ynez Valley and Vandenberg AFB fall under the jurisdiction of local sheriff and military police, respectively.
In a large-scale disaster, pre-recorded information will be provided to KUHL 1440 AM and KSMA 1240 AM for broadcasting. All offices should have a small transistor radio with the capability of tuning into these radio stations for public information.

College district emergency preparedness procedures are consistent with the California Emergency Services Act that establishes a Standardized Emergency Management System (SEMS) and National Incident Management System (NIMS) for an effective, standardized response to emergency/disaster situations.
