Emergency Preparedness

Expecting the Unexpected

Power outages, earthquakes, civil disturbances, and other disasters can occur without warning, placing members of the Allan Hancock College district community at risk. The district's emergency/disaster preparedness plan is designed to address campus emergencies. The overall purpose of the plan is to be prepared for the unexpected.

Specific Objectives of the Plan are to:
  • Minimize loss of life and property to the Allan Hancock College community
  • Control the emergency situation
  • Return the campus to normal operation as quickly as possible
  • Ensure that proper disaster recovery procedures are followed

Emergency/Disaster Management
During a campus-wide emergency, the President/Superintendent (or designee) activates the emergency plan. Emergency response is coordinated from the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), equipped with backup power and communications. Santa Maria's EOC is Building B, Captain's Room; Lompoc's is Room 1-103. The President/Superintendent is the EOC Director. Santa Ynez Valley and Vandenberg AFB emergencies are managed by local sheriff and military police.
