Advanced Officer Training

The Allan Hancock College Public Safety Department provides Advanced Officer Training courses for sworn and non-sworn law enforcement professions.  Students and Training Managers who are interested in reserving space in any of the scheduled courses or would like additional enrollment information should contact:

LE318 Traffic Collision Investigation Hours
This P.O.S.T. certified course will provide students with the knowledge, methodology, tasks and skills to conduct and document a detailed traffic collision investigation. This course satisfies the requirements of California Vehicle Code, Section 40600(a). P.O.S.T.: Plan IV.

LE351 Field Training Officer Hours
This P.O.S.T. certified and STC certified 40-hour course provides students with Field Training Officer Program requirements, training techniques, and procedures for officers assigned to train, evaluate, and supervise newly hired officers. P.O.S.T.: Plan II, backfill approved.

LE352 Field Training Officer Update Hours
This P.O.S.T. certified and STC certified 24-hour course meets the tri-annual update requirements for Field Training Officers (F.T.O.s). F.T.O.s participate in structured learning activities involving training skills, leadership, ethics, liability, standardized guidelines, trainee evaluations, remediation & current Basic Police Academy training methods. P.O.S.T.: Plan II, backfill approved.

LE426 Tactical Patrol Rifle Hours

The purpose of the course is to assist the student with the keeping up to date with changes in regulations and case law, challenges, opportunities, and trends in the training environment. P.O.S.T.: Plan IV.

LE355 Leadership Development Hours
This P.O.S.T. certified and STC certified 40-hour course is designed to prepare students who are seeking leadership positions within a law enforcement agency or department. Topics include leadership concepts, ethics, discipline, evaluations, liability, organizational change, oral board preparation, challenges to leadership and a mock oral board. P.O.S.T.: Plan IV.  The extended format course is P.O.S.T Plan N/A. This course is for sworn and non-sworn law enforcement professionals.

LE370 Arrest & Control Instructor Update Hours
This P.O.S.T. certified and STC certified 24-hour course is designed to update students previously certified as Arrest & Control Instructors. Students must be in good physical condition with no physical limitations or illnesses that would prevent the students from fully participating safely in all activities. P.O.S.T.: Plan II.

LE371 Arrest & Control Instructor Basic Course Hours
This P.O.S.T. certified and STC certified course is designed to prepare the student as an instructor in Arrest & Control methods and meets the P.O.S.T. training requirements for Arrest & Control Instructor pursuant to regulation 1082 & for instructor requirements for courses pursuant to regulation 1070 for Arrest & Control Courses. Students must be in good physical condition with no physical limitations or illnesses that would prevent the students from fully participating safely in all activities. P.O.S.T.: Plan II.

LE421 Complaint Dispatcher Academy Hours
This P.O.S.T. certified 120-hour course provides the student with the basic skills and knowledge for a Public Safety Dispatcher position and meets the P.O.S.T. dispatcher certification requirements. P.O.S.T.: Plan IV  * Students are not required to employed by a law enforcement agency to attend.

LE424 PC 832 Arrest & Control Hours
This P.O.S.T. certified 40-hour course is designed to meet training requirements as specified in Penal Code § 832 for certain limited function peace officers and other officials. Students are not required to be employed by a law enforcement agency to attend.  P.O.S.T. LE425 PC 832 Firearms Hours

This course is offered as a second course to PC Arrest Training for the final 24 hours of instruction and is generally offered at least once or twice each semester over three consecutive weekdays, usually Monday - Wednesday.  The training is limited to handgun techniques only; no rifle or shotgun training is provided.  The first day is spend in the classroom and includes hands on familiarization of the firearm.  Days two and three are spent on a local firing range.  On the final day, the student must qualify with the firearm by successfully passing a state-standardized course of fire.  As with the Arrest portion of the course, a single retest is allowed.

By arrangement with the course coordinator, personally-owned and agency-owned approved and maintained firearms and ammunition may be used upon approval of the college firearms instructor.  College owned firearms and ammunition are available in limited supply.  Check with the Law Enforcement coordinator for availability.

State law (PC 13511.5) requires that prior to enrollment in the firearms course, non-sponsored students obtain a firearms clearance thru criminal records check conducted by submission of fingerprints.  The fingerprint check is submitted thru LiveScan system and usually cost he student between $90 and $100.

LE357 AICC - Academy Instructor Certification Course Hours
This course provides the essential instructional and facilitation skills for instructors assigned to teach at a law enforcement or public safety training program. This course meets requirements for the Academy Instructor Certification Program as well as the tri-annual recertification training requirement for law enforcement academy instructors. P.O.S.T.: Plan IV.  Course required to teach in the law enforcement academy.
