Hancock Students Win Big at SkillsUSA State Competition
APRIL 25, 2023-- Students in Allan Hancock College’s SkillsUSA program took home multiple gold, silver, and bronze medals from the SkillsUSA state competition April 15-16 in Ontario, California.
Fourteen of the 17 Hancock students who participated in this year’s competition earned medals. Students Alejandro Solorio, Jovany Cardenas, Kierstin Law, Valeria Morales, and Cesar Jimenez each took home a gold medal in the categories of automotive service tech, computer programming, extemporaneous speaking, medical math, and prepared speech respectively. The competing students also earned four silver medals and five bronze medals.
“We are very proud of all our SkillsUSA students. They worked incredibly hard to prepare for the competition,” said Hancock SkillsUSA Advisor Adelina Pozos. “They were great representatives of the college and the SkillsUSA program.”
The gold medal winners will move on to compete in the SkillsUSA National Competition in Atlanta, Georgia, in June.
SkillsUSA is a national organization created to teach students the technical skills required for employment in career technical educational fields, as well as the soft skills required in any modern workplace. The organization is a partnership of students, teachers, and industry representatives that work together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. The organization holds competitions annually to recognize the achievements of career and technical education students and to encourage them to strive for excellence.
