FYE@AHC: First Year Experience is a supportive, student-centered program designed to help first-time college students successfully transition into college life. From your first class to your first major milestone, FYE@AHC provides the tools, resources, and connections you need to thrive academically, socially, and personally during your first year at Allan Hancock College.

Whether you’re the first in your family to attend college, balancing school with work and life, or still discovering your academic path, FYE@AHC is your foundation for success—providing the support and guidance you need to thrive in your first year and beyond.

FYE@AHC is for motivated students who are ready to start strong and stay on track during their first year of college.

To be eligible for the FYE@AHC Cohort, students must:

✅ Be a first-time college student
✅ Complete orientation, an educational plan (SEP), and advising by the deadline
✅ Submit a brief application (accepted on a first-come, first-served basis)
✅ Place into English and/or Math with corequisite support recommended or required

🎓 Two Signature 3-Unit Courses

🔹 FYE@AHC: Foundations for Academic Success – Math Focus
Develop your problem-solving and critical thinking skills through a math-focused lens. This course also introduces you to key campus resources, builds academic confidence, and promotes a growth mindset.

🔹 FYE@AHC: Foundations for Academic Success – English Focus
Strengthen your reading, writing, and communication skills while reflecting on your academic goals, cultural identity, and personal growth. You’ll engage in writing projects, time management activities, and campus involvement.

Both courses are deeply integrated with AHC student support services to help you succeed academically, personally, and socially during your first year.

Math Center exterior

Math Center

Building M-101
Provides free in-person and remote drop-in tutoring in mathematics. Anyone 18 years or older may register and take advantage of the center as frequently as they want.

Writing Center Arc Exterior

Writing Center

Building L-101C
Provides free assistance with all writing assignments, computers with internet and printing access, weekly writing workshops, and bilingual assistance. All AHC students are eligible for assistance on a drop-in or appointment basis.

Tutoring Center

Building L-101
Free in-person and remote tutoring in most subjects for all AHC students. One-hour weekly appointments or unlimited drop-in visits are available, as well as an open computer lab and quiet study spaces.

Free in-person and remote tutoring in most subjects is available at the Lompoc Valley Center. One-hour weekly appointments or unlimited drop-in visits are available. Computers and study places available as well.
