The Allan Hancock College CORE Custody Academy meets California STC requirements for current or aspiring custody officers.
This intensive course combines academics with paramilitary discipline, challenging students mentally and physically while teaching all major aspects of prisoner custody and care.
The Academy prepares you for employment in county or city jails, requiring dedication and an understanding of the role’s responsibilities. This packet outlines expectations, admissions procedures, and employment standards.

Graduates will meet or exceed STC professional standards and demonstrate the ability to perform custody officer duties with ethics, integrity, honesty, courage, self-discipline, determination, teamwork, compassion, and adherence to the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics.

Application Process: Independent & Co-Sponsored Recruits
If approved, you will receive a login and password to register for the Academy on myHancock. Registration requires full payment of college fees and CORE Academy course fees (approx. $721.50), plus $30.54 (equipment fee) and $300–$500 (uniforms). Many fees may be covered by Promise Plus.
Independent recruits pay their own costs. Co-sponsored recruits share costs with their agency.
