Resources for Faculty

The Teacher Learning Center (TLC) provides a high-tech center for instructor training and assistance in the use of multimedia classrooms and online instruction.

The TLC is located in L-215, the 2nd floor of the Academic Resource Center (ARC) in Bldg. L-South.

Many of the professional development workshops for Distance Education are in the TLC. For more information on workshops and how to use the TLC to prepare for your classes or work on new and innovative technology, contact the Distance Education team.

The Distance Education Department offers open office hours in the TLC and/or on zoom:

  • Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays
  • 9-10am and 2-3pm

LTI facilitates a secure exchange of information between the LMS and external learning tools, including course information, user identity, and data or feedback from the tools.

*if you install an LTI from the apps in your Canvas course, you the instructor are responsible for manintaining and troubleshooting the app.

CVC@ONE is a professional community for California Community College faculty, offering resources, training, and support to improve online teaching, course design, and student learning outcomes.

cvc@one. Topics range from Regular Substantive Interaction (RSI), to equitable grading strategies and beginning course design.

Peer Online Course Review (POCR)

Peer Online Course Review (POCR) was established through a partnership by the CCC Chancellor's Office, CVC@ONE and the Academic Senate for the California Community Colleges (ASCCC) to create a process and framework for high-quality online course design.

Teaching using a different method can be a challenge. Many of the normal pedagogical assumptions can change. For example, maintaining regular contact with your online students is very important. If you are new to teaching using technology and/or want to teach online, please contact the Distance Education Specialist. They can offer materials, workshops, training, and support.

Online Education Initiative (OEI)

The OEI is an initiative of the Chancellor's Office, funded by the California legislature in 2013 in support of Governor Jerry Brown's Online Education Initiative proposal.

Canvas Chosen For Course Management

The California Community Colleges Online Education Initiative (OEI) announced its intent to award Instructure Inc. the contract to provide an online course management system and related services to community colleges statewide.
