Students Return to Hancock for Spring Classes

JANUARY 23, 2024-- Allan Hancock College welcomed thousands of new and returning students back to its Santa Maria campus and Lompoc Valley Center on Jan. 22 for the start of spring classes.
Despite the wet weather, the campuses were bustling with activity as more than 10,000 credit and noncredit students started classes.
“We are excited to welcome students back to campus for the spring,” said Hancock Superintendent/President Kevin G. Walthers, Ph.D. “We want them to know that our faculty, staff, and administrators are here to support them.”
That support included the college’s staff and student ambassadors manning information booths, where they answered questions, provided snacks and helped students locate their classes.
“We are here to help make things easier for students on their first day,” said Hancock Student Ambassador Skyler Grimnes, who worked an information booth at the college’s Santa Maria campus. “Sometimes things can seem a little overwhelming, so we are here to be a resource and make them feel welcome.”
Students at Hancock have access to a wide variety of support services and resources. Those include free textbook and laptop lending and tutoring, as well as free bus passes and food through the college’s Basic Needs Center. Students also have access to financial aid, health services, and academic counseling.
In addition to their academic pursuits, Hancock students looking to get more involved in on-campus life can also join dozens of on-campus clubs and participate in events like the college’s Bulldog Bow-WOW student welcome in February.
