Hancock Welcomes Students for Start of Fall Classes

AUGUST 17, 2026- Allan Hancock College welcomed students back to campus for fall classes Aug. 17.
More than 11,300 students are enrolled in credit and noncredit classes at the college, which offers in-person and online courses at its Santa Maria campus and Lompoc Valley Center, as well as other locations throughout Northern Santa Barbara County.
“We’re excited to welcome our students back to Hancock and see them begin a new semester,” said Hancock Superintendent/President Kevin G. Walthers, Ph.D. “Whether they’re returning or stepping onto campus for the first time, we want every student to know there are people here who are ready to help them.”
Hancock staff, administrators and student ambassadors manned on-campus information booths where new and returning students could ask questions, learn about helpful student services and even get help finding their classrooms.
“We’re helping new students find their classes, answering their questions and making sure they have a good first impression of Hancock,” said student ambassador Madden Resendez. “It’s actually my first year, too, so I’m learning alongside them. It’s been nice being able to figure things out while also helping other students get where they need to go.”
Hancock Community Education also began noncredit classes on Aug. 17. These free classes include English as a Second Language, Citizenship and GED preparation courses. Other free noncredit programs include classes that help students prepare for careers in childcare, tax preparation, and learn basic workplace computer skills. Registration for these and many other Community Education classes is ongoing. Noncredit class and registration information is available at www.hancockcollege.edu/communityed.
Students who were unable to register for fall credit classes can still register for late-start, short-term fall classes, which start Oct. 12. These classes usually run for eight weeks, can be completed online, and allow students to earn additional credit toward their degree or transfer programs.
Short-term fall classes can be viewed using the college’s online Class Search at www.hancockcollege.edu.
