AHC Community Education Offers Free Online Summer Classes
JUNE 11, 2020 -- Allan Hancock College’s Community Education program will continue serving area residents this summer with tuition-free noncredit classes and low-cost fee-based classes beginning June 15.
This summer’s offerings from Community Education include courses in workforce preparation, career training, English as a Second Language (ESL), citizenship preparation and vocational education.
“Community Education is the best option for community members looking to improve their job skills, learn new skills, and/or work toward their career goals in a safe instructional environment,” said Hancock Dean of Academic Affairs Sofia Ramirez-Gelpi, Ph.D. “This summer, Hancock’s Community Education, via remote teaching and Distance Education offerings, will continue to strive to make education available and accessible to all members of our community.”
Remote Community Education offerings this summer include tuition-free classes in basic math; noncredit ESL; computer applications, internet and Microsoft Office program skills; and classes to help you write a resume, do a successful job search, and ace an interview. Preparation for citizenship will also be available this summer.
In addition, as part of the AHC Summer Career Academy, Community Education is also offering tuition-free and low-cost workforce preparation and career training classes for community members seeking employment or looking to upskill in their current careers. Low cost fee-based courses, in partnership with Ed2Go, are offered fully online on a variety of career-related topics. Need a new career? Would like to start a business? Let Hancock’s Community Education be the first step.
“Our courses prepare students to enter or re-enter the workforce by identifying marketable employment skills, developing job-related goals, creating a job search plan, drafting a resume, performing a job search, strengthening interviewing techniques and improving communication skills,” said AHC Community Education Vocational Education Coordinator Joan Bergstrom Smith. “The certificate program crosses occupational titles and employment areas and enhances employability for students entering the workforce or seeking a career change.”
