Embedded Tutoring was developed through the Title V-HSI Grant (2020–2025) to expand opportunities for student success and retention in transfer-level English, Math, and Science courses. Today, the program continues with support from the Student Equity and Achievement Program.
Embedded Tutoring helps build a sense of community among first-year students enrolled in Math, English, and Science courses. Embedded tutors serve as role models for academic and personal success, both in and out of the classroom. By integrating tutoring into the course experience, the program encourages students to view academic support as a regular and proactive part of the learning process. The close partnership among faculty, tutors, and students fosters engagement, a sense of belonging, and connection to resources across the campus community.

Embedded Tutors provide tutoring both inside and outside of the classroom; they work closely with their instructors to help students understand course concepts and enhance student engagement. Embedded Tutors are the bridge to tutoring support programs and resources across campus. All embedded tutors are students of "good academic standing" and participate in frequent training. The typical Embedded Tutor will work with faculty to decide on a schedule, which often includes in-class participation, online communication, as well as appointments and workshops with fellow students outside of class. This is a paid student worker position, with an opportunity to work between 10-20 hours per week, depending on course assignments.
