Allan Hancock College Releases Statement on DACA Ruling

JUNE 18, 2020 -- Allan Hancock College issued the following statement on the recent Supreme Court ruling that continues Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA):

The Supreme Court’s decision reaffirms Allan Hancock College’s continuing commitment to equal access and educational equity for all people in our community, regardless of immigration status.

“Hancock is proud of its status as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and remains strongly committed to supporting DACA recipients and other undocumented students,” said Allan Hancock College Superintendent/President Kevin G. Walthers, Ph.D. “Our DREAMer and undocumented students are an invaluable segment of the Bulldog family.”

The college stands united with the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office’s statement that this decision offers hope to a population of our best and brightest students who were brought to this country as children and who contribute to the fabric of our community and our economy.

Hancock will continue to vocally advocate for our DACA and undocumented students, oppose the elimination of the DACA program and urge federal legislators to protect and preserve DACA and the right of all students to obtain a higher education.
