2024 Honorees

Larry Lahr
Larry Lahr served for 27 years as an elected trustee of Allan Hancock College. During his tenure, he saw three permanent presidents at Hancock (beginning with Ann Foxworthy Lewellen) and served as president of the board four times until his resignation in 2021. A Hancock alumnus, he also graduated from Cal Poly and has built a successful agricultural real estate firm serving the Central Coast

Joyce Howerton
Hancock alumna Joyce Howerton served as Lompoc’s mayor for three terms in the 1990s and helped secure the land where Hancock’s Lompoc Valley Center is located. Her career in public and community service includes founding the North County Rape Crisis and Child Protection Center, working as Executive Director of SBCAN, and serving as a field representative for former State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson.

The Luis & Consuelo Chavez Family
The Chavez Family is a multigenerational family of farmers and business leaders with deep roots in the Santa Maria community. Luis and Consuelo Chavez started farming strawberries in Santa Maria on a single acre of land in the 1970s. They founded L&G Farming in 1986, and today the family employs more than 2,000 people and farms of more than 1,000 acres. Five of their six children work in the strawberry industry and several are Hancock alumni.
