Board of Trustees Vacancy
The district is currently soliciting applications to serve as an appointed member of the Board of Trustees for the district’s Area 1 until the next regularly scheduled election for governing board members, which is Tuesday, November 7, 2028.
The Board of Trustees, during their regular August 18, 2026, meeting, discussed the process and timeline of filling the Area 1 trustee vacancy. The Board indicated (pursuant to Education Code Section 5091) its intent to invite community members to apply for the vacant seat.
Board Responsibilities
The Board of Trustees is seeking candidates who have the ability and time to fulfill the responsibilities of being a member of the board, which include:
- Participating fully in the work of the Board, which includes attending all Board meetings and key events, studying and discussing policy issues, and participating in trustee orientation, training, and professional development programs;
- Being knowledgeable about the communities served by the District;
- Being committed to the mission and functions of community colleges; understanding the educational, social, and economic policy issues pertaining to community colleges;
- Engaging in balancing the needs of many diverse groups and be able to contribute to and build consensus;
- Contributing to effective Board functioning and supporting the authority of the Board as a whole;
- Understanding board roles as established by the District’s accreditation standards; and,
- Committing to uphold the District’s policies on board roles, responsibilities, and ethics.
The Board of Trustees meets on the third Tuesday of the month at 5:00 p.m. Special meetings are infrequent and scheduled as needed.

Application and Selection Process
Applications are due no later than Friday, September 25, 2026, at 4 p.m. The Board will hold a special meeting on Friday, October 9, 2026, to interview finalists and invite public comment about any aspect of the process or any candidates being considered. Following public comment, the Board will consider candidate qualifications and vote to fill the vacancy in Trustee Area 1.
