Hancock Horizons Helps Teens Prepare For College & Explore Careers

JUNE 7, 2024 -- Allan Hancock College Community Education will launch a new summer program that prepares teens for college-level academics and allows them to explore potential career paths.
The four-week Hancock Horizons program will run from July 12- Aug. 1 at the college’s Santa Maria campus and is open to students going into grades 9-12. The classes will be held Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Hancock Horizons is an exciting new program designed to ignite curiosity and excitement for learning,” said Community Education Coordinator Ashleigh Valero. “We aim to create a dynamic and supportive environment where teens can enjoy challenging coursework, find joy in learning, and explore potential career paths. By preparing them for college-level academics and introducing them to the opportunities Allan Hancock College offers, we're helping them discover careers they can pursue with confidence."
Hancock Horizons students will participate in coursework and activities that will prepare them for college-level reading, writing, and mathematics. In addition, they will also be exposed to several potential careers in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) related fields that include, robotics and electronics, environmental health and safety, agriculture and veterinary sciences engineering, and more.
Space in the program is limited, and students will be selected through a lottery process. The cost of the program is $260, and parents must apply by June 30.
