AHC Hosts Inaugural Hancock Honors Event on Saturday
SEPTEMBER 6, 2023-- Allan Hancock College is recognizing three exceptional community leaders who have made a positive and lasting impact through their lives and work at the college’s inaugural “Hancock Honors” celebration this Saturday.
The sold-out event takes place on Sept. 9 from 5-9 p.m. at the college’s new Fine Arts Complex at its Santa Maria campus. The inaugural group of honorees includes patron of the arts and beloved music instructor, the late Patricia “Patty” Boyd; former AHC superintendent/president Ann Foxworthy Lewellen; and GRAMMY Award-winning recording artist and PCPA alumnus Tommy Soulati Shepherd.
“For over 100 years, Hancock has educated leaders who’ve changed the odds in our community and beyond,” said Hancock Superintendent/President Kevin G. Walthers, Ph.D. “The three individuals we are honoring embody our college’s mission and values, and we are excited to celebrate them.”
The evening will begin in the plaza outside the Fine Arts Complex with food and drinks, interactive art installations, and live music by the San Francisco collective, Jazz Mafia. Next, the festivities will move indoors to the complex’s recital hall for an inspiring multimedia program celebrating the three honorees, and a major announcement from the college.
After the hour-long program, the event will return to the plaza under the stars for dessert, drinks, and more live music—including a surprise guest performance.
“We’ll not only celebrate the work of these three honorees, but we’ll also showcase the bright future of our college and our community,” said AHC Foundation Executive Director Jon Hooten. “It’s going to be a fun and memorable night with a few exciting surprises.”
Sponsors for Hancock Honors include CoastHills Credit Union, McDonald's, SESLOC Federal Credit Union, The Santa Barbara Foundation, the Santa Maria Times, the Santa Barbara Foundation, and many more.
Proceeds from the Hancock Honors celebration will benefit the Hancock Promise, which provides local high school graduates with a year of free tuition at Hancock.
