Foxworthy Gallery Showcases Captivating Arts By Jennifer Gunlock
OCTOBER 17, 2023-- Allan Hancock College’s Ann Foxworthy Gallery is showcasing a captivating art exhibition
by Jennifer Gunlock as part of its latest show.
This remarkable exhibition, which spans mixed media, collage, drawing, and digital
art, will be on display at the gallery through Dec. 13.
Gunlock’s art captures the essence of the natural and built environments, inviting
viewers to reflect on our impact on the world around us. Through her large-scale pieces,
she highlights the intricate relationship between humans and nature.
“My work demonstrates a fascination with the collision of the natural and built environments, and it brings attention to Western civilization’s attempts to dominate and manipulate nature,” states Gunlock. “By incorporating photo-collage with decorative papers and colored pencil onto rag paper or panel, I construct landscapes that refer to marking the wild landscape with infrastructure such as mines, oil wells, cell phone towers disguised as trees, and buildings for habitation.”
Based in Los Angeles, Jennifer Gunlock earned her MFA from California State University, Long Beach, in 2003. Her artistic journey includes receiving the Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant in 2022 and showcasing her work at both national and local venues.
The gallery is hosting a reception for the exhibit on Nov. 9 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. The event is open to the public and free.
The Ann Foxworthy Gallery is located inside the Academic Resource Center, bldg. L on Hancock’s Santa Maria campus. Gallery hours are Monday through Wednesday 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Thursdays from 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
