Community Education Offers Fall Noncredit Classes

AUGUST 25, 2025-- Allan Hancock College’s Community Education is currently inviting Northern Santa Barbara County residents from all walks of life to register for noncredit classes.  

This fall, AHC Community Education is offering noncredit, tuition-free courses in a wide range of subjects, as well as affordable fee-based courses that offer everything from educational enrichment to job skill development and training. The classes are open to everyone, no matter their age, background, or educational level. 

Alicia Paniagua, dean of Community Education, said, “At Community Education, we open the door to lifelong learning because we believe in the power of education to transform lives. We offer more than just classes. We meet students where they are and support them every step of the way as they unlock their potential, embrace new skills, or discover opportunities. We truly have something for everyone.” 

Popular classes include English language development classes, as well as classes that help students prepare for high school equivalency exams. Community Education also offers a wide range of computer skills courses designed to help students learn how to use programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel.  

For community members looking to start a new career, Community Education also offers several classes that allow students to earn certificates and prepare to take licensing exams in areas such as childcare, income tax preparation, and commercial truck driving. 

“Many students have gone on to get certified with H&R Block or to get hired as assistants for local tax preparation services after completing the three IRS-certified Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) classes at Allan Hancock College.” said tax preparation instructor Cary Gray. 

Some of the noncredit classes, such as early childhood education and English language development, can even help students transition to credit classes, where they can continue their education and eventually earn a college degree.   

For students seeking lifelong learning and enrichment, Community Education also offers courses in apparel construction, floral design, home economics, photography, and classes for older adults.  

Fall Community Education classes at Hancock began on Aug. 18 with many offering ongoing registration.
