Hancock to Host "Week of Welcome" for Fall Students

AUGUST 20, 2024-- Allan Hancock College is expanding its popular “Bulldog Bow-WOW” event into a weeklong series of fun and informative activities for new and returning students.
The college’s “Week of Welcome”, or WOW, will take place from Aug. 26-30 and include workshops and activities designed to get students off to a successful start at Hancock. Students who participate each day will have the opportunity to meet with faculty and staff, learn about programs and services, win prizes, get free food, connect with their peers, and more.
“Hancock’s Week of Welcome will connect new and returning students with the resources and tools they need to set themselves up for a successful fall semester and beyond,” said Hancock Superintendent/President Kevin G. Walthers.
Each day of the week will focus on a specific area or aspect of the college. On “What’s Your Major Monday”, students will be encouraged to explore the college programs and potential career opportunities. “See a Counselor Tuesday” will give students the opportunity to participate in drop-in visits with Hancock academic counselors where they can ask questions and finalize their course and career planning. On Wednesday, the college will host its traditional “Bow-WOW” event, which provides a fun and engaging opportunity to learn more about support services, resources, and student clubs while enjoying games and food. “Show Me the Money Thursday” will focus on job opportunities and scholarships for students.
“Fun with Faculty Friday” will close out the Week of Welcome on Aug. 30. The final day will feature workshops, breakfast and lunch, and a chance for students to get to know their instructors.
This week-long event is free and open to all Hancock students. No registration is required, but students must bring their Hancock ID card or download the college’s myHancock app to access their virtual ID card in order to attend.
