Hancock Hosts Tim Burton Film Retrospective
APRIL 18, 2024-- Allan Hancock College’s film and television program is celebrating the work of acclaimed director Tim Burton by hosting a retrospective of his work through the end of April.
The film and television program is partnering with the Friends of the AHC Library to host a screening of “Beetlejuice” on April 19 at 6 p.m., followed by a screening of “Big Fish” on April 26 at 6 p.m. Both movies will be shown in the screening room of the college’s Fine Arts Complex (Bldg. F, Room 257).
“A Tim Burton film is always a momentous occasion,” said filmmaker and Hancock film and television professor Christopher Hite. “His next film, the much-anticipated sequel to ‘Beetlejuice’, will be released this fall, so it seemed like the right time to revisit his work, especially the original film.”
Hite— an award-winning filmmaker, screenwriter and animator— said the retrospective was an opportunity for both students and the public to watch and contemplate Burton’s long career and contributions to the art of film.
“Burton's work reflects an artist that is in tune with various genres and eras of film history. He has always been willing to experiment and explore the dimensions of cinema,” said Hite. “For me, I find his approach to making films very relatable. He starts from a place of artistic interest and makes his story universes conform to that vision.”
