Ken Ostini Joins Hancock Board of Trustees

Hancock Superintendent/President Dr. Kevin G. Walthers swears in new college trustee Ken Ostini.

JANUARY 13, 2025-- Lompoc resident, veteran and Bulldog alumnus Ken Ostini is the newest member of the Allan Hancock College Board of Trustees. Ken was elected in November 2024 to represent Area 4, which covers Lompoc, and brings decades of leadership and service to his new role.

“We are thrilled to welcome Ken Ostini to the Board of Trustees,” said Hancock Superintendent/President Kevin G. Walthers, Ph.D. “His extensive leadership experience and deep connection to our community will undoubtedly strengthen our mission of changing the odds for students.”

With a distinguished career spanning public service and community engagement, Ken retired in 2011 as Chief of the Airman and Family Services Flight at Vandenberg Air Force Base following over 28 years in the Chief of Recreation Services Division. He later served as President/CEO of the Lompoc Valley Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau from 2011 to 2016.

Ken’s commitment to education and the community is evident in his extensive volunteer work. He served for 10 years on the Lompoc Parks and Recreation Commission, 15 years as a trustee on the Lompoc Unified School District Board of Education and seven years on the Allan Hancock College Foundation Board. Currently, he is actively involved with the Santa Barbara County Veterans Stand Down Committee and the Good Samaritan Shelter for the Lompoc area. He also served as President of the Lompoc Cemetery District and the Lompoc Valley Historical Society, and vice-president of the Lompoc High School Alumni Association.

Ken graduated from Hancock in 1970 before serving three years in the U.S. Army. He later earned a bachelor’s degree in Recreation Administration from California State University, Long Beach in 1976.

“As a proud Hancock alumnus, I am honored to serve as a trustee,” said Ken. “This college has been a cornerstone of our community and an integral part of my own journey. I look forward to contributing to its continued success and supporting its mission to transform lives through education.”

Ken’s seat was previously held by Jeffery Hall, who served as the Area 4 trustee for eight years, but did not run for reelection in 2024.
