OCTOBER 6, 2025-- Allan Hancock College’s Ann Foxworthy Gallery will showcase the work of Santa Barbara-based artist Paulo P. Lima, Ph.D., in the upcoming exhibition Dreams and Revelations, on view from Oct. 13-Dec. 4.

The exhibition will open with an artist reception on Oct. 17 from 4:30–7 p.m. in the gallery. There will also be an artist talk with Lima on Nov. 6 from 5–6 p.m. in the college’s Fine Arts Complex (bldg. F, Room 225). Both events are free and open to the public.

Lima’s work spans sculpture, painting, photography and mixed media, transforming recycled and found objects into art that celebrates memory, ancestry and cultural identity. His pieces invite viewers to see the extraordinary in the ordinary while honoring traditions rooted in Brazilian Baroque art.

“Paulo P. Lima’s art invites viewers into a world where found materials and familiar forms converge, transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary,” said Elizabeth Russell, Foxworthy Gallery co-director. “His evocative works contemplate the importance of ancestral knowledge and memory.”

Born in Brazil, Lima began his career designing costumes for theater before moving into the visual arts. Over the past decade, his work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including at the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque, NM, and locally at Santa Barbara’s Sullivan Goss gallery. In addition to being an active community artist, Lima teaches theater and art courses at Loyola Marymount University and California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.

“My art connects me to my ancestors and pays homage to the cultures shaping my identity,” said Lima. “By giving discarded materials a new life, I celebrate the circularity of beauty and the resilience of memory.”

The Ann Foxworthy Gallery is located inside the Academic Resource Center (bldg. L-South) on Hancock’s Santa Maria campus, 800 S. College Drive. Gallery hours are Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m., and Thursday, 10 a.m.–7 p.m.
