Registration Underway for Hancock's Annual Women's Fire Camp

Participants in Allan Hancock College’s Women’s Fire Camp practice operating a fire hose beside a fire engine during a hands-on training exercise. Wearing yellow protective fire shirts and helmets, the participants spray water while instructors and other trainees observe nearby.

MAY 14, 2026-- Allan Hancock College invites women ages 15-25 to get a first-hand look at life as a firefighter at Hancock’s annual Women’s Fire Camp. The camp will be held May 30 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the college’s Public Safety Training Complex (PSTC) in Lompoc.

Women who sign up for this event will work with staff from Hancock’s fire technology program and the college’s state-certified Fire Academy. Several female Hancock College Fire Academy graduates, who are now professional firefighters, will be on hand to share their knowledge and experience. Participants will take part in various team-building exercises and hands-on training with the techniques and equipment used by firefighters.

Activities will include fire service-based fitness, ground ladder and aerial ladders, hose handling, search and rescue exercises, rope rescue, and more. The camp is free, and participants do not need to have any experience in the fire industry to take part.

“The primary goal for the Women’s Fire Camp was to create a safe and challenging environment that would allow women to explore the fire service career,” said AHC Fire Technology Program Coordinator John Ceceña. “Our hope is that the Women’s Fire Camp will improve confidence and provide opportunities to women that previously did not know existed.”

In addition to the activities, the camp will provide lunch and conclude with a job fair sponsored by local fire departments. Participants will also receive a free T-shirt.

Space is limited, and anyone interested in participating must register to attend by May 23. To learn more and sign up for Hancock’s Women’s Fire Camp, visit
