Hancock's Fine Arts Faculty Exhibit Showcases Instructors Talent and Creativity

NOVEMBER 18, 2019--Allan Hancock College’s talented fine arts instructors are showing a wide range of creative work during the college’s Fine Arts Faculty Art Show. The show is currently running at the Ann Foxworthy Gallery on Hancock’s Santa Maria campus through Dec. 12. The show is free and open to the public.

“This is a great opportunity for our art department faculty to showcase their personal artworks,” said Ann Foxworthy Gallery Director Laura-Susan Thomas. “These are works they are creating in their own studio spaces. This show will help Hancock students to see our faculty members in their roles as artists outside of the classroom.”

The show features a variety of artwork by Hancock’s fine arts faculty, working in a broad range of mediums that include sculpture, painting, photography, experimental video, and digital art. The college’s instructors bring their unique perspectives to create diverse works including “Platters and Ash,” a series drawings and sculptures created with ash gathered from wildfires by Assistant Professor of Art Amiko Matsuo, and “Transgressions,” which utilizes new technologies in art, experimental video and data moshing of art imagery by Hancock Professor of Art and Design Nancy Jo Ward. Other pieces include fine arts faculty member Kam Jacoby’s photography of the Sunkist tract homes built in the 1950s in Lompoc, and many more innovative works of art.

A celebratory reception for the artists was held on Nov. 13 from in the gallery. The reception included an informal talk and a question-and-answer session with some of the college’s exhibiting artists/faculty members.

The Ann Foxworthy Gallery is located in the Academic Resource Center, bldg. L, on the Santa Maria campus. The gallery is open Monday - Thursday, 9 a.m. - 7:45 p.m., and on Fridays from 9 a.m. - 2:45 p.m. The gallery is closed on weekends and holidays.
