Hancock Supports Local Veterans With Donation Drive
DECEMBER 6, 2021 -- This holiday season, Allan Hancock College’s Veteran Success Center (VSC) is seeking donations from staff, students, and the community to support local military veterans staying at the Casa de Flores facility in Santa Maria.
Hancock’s Veteran Success Center is partnering with the nonprofit Casa de Flores, also known as Camp Flores, which provides shelter, services, and support to local homeless and near-homeless military veterans in need.
"We know that veterans in our area face many challenges, especially during the holiday season," said Hancock Veteran Success Center Director Stephanie Crosby. "This project is a way to reach out to those veterans, provide them with items that will help them during this time, and show them that our community is grateful for their service to our country."
The Veteran Success Center is seeking the following items for Casa de Flores veterans:
- Gift cards to Home Depot, Walmart or Target
- Food gift cards
- Twin bed sheet sets
- Blankets
- Pillowcases
- Home cleaning supplies
- Toothbrushes, toothpaste, band-aids, deodorant, and other toiletries
- Men’s socks
- Printed t-shirts (M, L, XL)
- Boxes or cans of nonperishable food
Donated items can be dropped off at the Veteran Success Center, located in Building G-101 or Building A-304 on the Hancock Santa Maria campus at 800 S. College Drive in Santa Maria. The deadline for donations is Dec. 13.
Hancock's Veteran Success Center assists prospective and enrolled student veterans, active duty or dependents of veterans in utilizing education benefits, completing the admission application process, registering for classes, accessing campus resources, getting involved in leadership activities and transitioning into civilian life. In addition, the center also offers mental health counseling, computer access, learning assistance information, and access to tutoring and health services.
