Model A Ford Club Hosts Raffle to Benefit AHC Students
SEPTEMBER 10, 2020 -- A local car club is continuing its tradition of holding a raffle to raise money for funding scholarships for students in Allan Hancock College’s industrial technology program.
The Santa Maria Model A Ford Club will host its annual raffle to benefit Hancock students on Sept. 12 at 3 p.m. outside of Orcutt Union Plaza at 201 S. Broadway, Santa Maria. The raffle has raised thousands of dollars for Hancock’s industrial technology students over the last 17 years.
“As a club, we feel that this a great way to give back to our community, the college, and the students who can benefit from these scholarships,” said Jay McCord, a Model A Ford Club member and current president. “It’s really rewarding when we go out in the community and see many of the students that received past scholarships now have successful careers in their industry.”
The Santa Maria Model A Ford Club has been a long-time supporter of the department’s auto body and auto technology programs. Founded in 2003 by Chuck Bailey, a former Hancock instructor, and Van Newkirk, the club started its partnership with Hancock with two scholarships for $200 each.
The grand prize for this year’s raffle is a two-night stay in an ocean-view room at the Ragged Point Inn, $300 cash, and a Central Coast gift basket with a combined total value of more than $1,200. Tickets cost $5 each or 25 for $100. Tickets can be filled out using a printable form at www.santamariamodelaclub.com and mailed, with payment, to PO Box 2983, Santa Maria, CA 93457. Tickets must be postmarked by Sept. 11 to qualify.
