SEPTEMBER 2, 2020 -- Student-parents and members of the community are invited to apply for childcare services through Allan Hancock College’s Children’s Center in Lompoc.

Located on the college’s Lompoc Valley Center campus, the center offers quality care for infants and preschoolers. The LVC Childcare Center currently has availability for eight toddlers ages 18 months to three years old, as well as 10 open slots for preschoolers ages three to five years old.

The center operates from 7:45 a.m. until 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday and serves as the lab for Early Childhood Studies students who assist the credentialed staff in providing an enriched learning environment designed to foster social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth for young children.

“The LVC Children’s Center provides various activities designed to enhance all developmental areas,” said Center Director Maria “Maggie” Suarez. “Children learn through play, and we provide hands-on opportunities for them to engage and grow.”

Center activities include teachers reading books and engaging the children in the stories, music, and movement that promote a wide range of unique cultures, and activities designed to teach children social-emotional skills through teacher modeling and participation.

“The Children’s Center also emphasizes our outdoor classroom,” said Suarez. “What children do indoors, we can also do outdoors.”

The center has also taken steps to ensure the health and safety of children, parents, and staff members. The center has a COVID-19 plan in place and is following all CDC and Community Care Licensing (CCL) guidelines. All center staff are trained on COVID protocol, and daily health and temperature checks are taken as part of the center’s protocol.

The center is open to the children of both AHC students and the general public. AHC college students take priority for Children’s Center enrollment. Students may be eligible for subsidized childcare at the center under the California Department of Education income guidelines. In addition, some students may also qualify for the Child Care Access Means Parents in School Program (CCAMPIS).
