Hancock Distributes Gift Cards to Students as Part of Vaccination Incentive Program

AUGUST 25, 2021 -- Fully vaccinated Allan Hancock College students will have another chance to receive a $250 gift card for helping keep the college’s campus healthy this fall.
After distributing more than 2,000 of the $250 Visa gift cards to students on Aug. 23 as part of Hancock’s student vaccination incentive program, the college will distribute a new round of gift cards on Thursday, Aug. 26, from noon until 4 p.m. at its Santa Maria campus and Lompoc Valley Center.
“It was very encouraging to see that thousands of our students are fully vaccinated and committed to ensuring the health and safety of our campus this fall,” said Hancock Superintendent/President Kevin G. Walthers, Ph.D. “We continue to urge students to get fully vaccinated and take advantage of this incentive program.”
The Allan Hancock College Board of Trustees voted unanimously at its regular meeting on Aug. 10 to require full COVID-19 vaccinations of all students, faculty and staff by Oct. 1. With the new mandate, Allan Hancock College joins other institutions of higher education, including California State University, the University of California, and nearly 40 other California community colleges, in instituting a COVID-19 vaccine requirement.
To receive a $250 Visa gift card, students must provide proof of full vaccination and a photo ID at the college’s cashier’s office. The gift cards are available to both credit and noncredit students. The college will notify students about future gift card disbursement days and times via email, text message and social media.
The college continues to urge students to get fully vaccinated not only to comply with the mandate, but to ensure the health, safety, and wellbeing of their peers, Hancock faculty and staff, and the community at large.
The college is also hosting a walk-up vaccination clinic on Friday, Aug. 27, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The clinic is open to students and the public and located in the courtyard between the Joe White Memorial Gymnasium and bldg. M.
Individuals unable to attend the clinic are still encouraged to get vaccinated and can schedule an appointment through the state’s myturn.ca.gov website, or text their ZIP code to GETVAX (438829) to instantly receive a list of vaccination sites near their location. Additionally, the college plans to offer more vaccination clinics during the fall semester. Dates and locations will be listed on the college’s website.
