Hancock Helps Students, Employees "Fuel Up" for Finals With Free Coffee

MAY 21, 2020 -- Allan Hancock College students and employees were treated to free coffee and other drinks from several local business to help them “fuel up” for finals.
On May 21, between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m., all Hancock students and employees were invited to show their college ID’s or proof of attendance or employment at one of six area coffee shops in Santa Maria, Orcutt, Lompoc, Buellton, Los Alamos and Pismo Beach to claim their free beverage.
“Finals week can be a challenging time for students and employees,” said Hancock Superintendent/President Kevin G. Walthers, Ph.D. “We are glad to be able to offer them a little something to get them energized and prepared to tackle their final exams and close out the spring semester on an encouraging and positive note.”
Participating coffee shops included Coffee Time in Santa Maria, Cups and Crumbs in Orcutt, Coffee Time in Lompoc, Plenty on Bell in Los Alamos, Coffee Cabin in Buellton and Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf in Pismo Beach. The funding to pay for the beverages was provided by an anonymous donor through the Allan Hancock College Foundation.
“We are very grateful that a member of our community reached out to provide this generous donation to help our students and staff prepare for final exams,” said Hancock Executive Director of College Advancement Jon Hooten.
In addition to its “Fuel up for Finals” event, Hancock is hosting virtual “Study-a-Thons” to help students prepare for their final exams with tutoring in math, English, S.T.E.M., and other subjects. Participating students will also receive a free food e-coupon.
