Start your journey with the CERT Training Program at Allan Hancock College.

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) course (EMS 102) is your opportunity to gain vital, life-saving skills while becoming an active contributor to your community’s safety and resilience. Developed in partnership with local emergency management professionals, this hands-on course teaches you how to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters and emergencies—whether natural or man-made.

Through engaging classroom instruction and dynamic, scenario-based exercises, students learn essential skills in disaster preparedness, fire suppression, search and rescue, triage, first aid, and team organization. You’ll train alongside fellow community members and public safety personnel to develop confidence, leadership, and real-world readiness for when your community needs you most.

Upon successful completion of the course, each participant will receive the following credentials: 

  • CERT Certification
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Heartsaver First Aid, CPR, AED Provider
  • American College of Trauma Surgeons 'Stop the Bleed' Provider
  • Introduction to Incident Command System FEMA Certification
  • CERT and the Incident Command System FEMA Certification

The CERT Training Course (EMS 102) is ideal for:

  • Individuals who want to be better prepared to protect their family and community in times of crisis.
  • Students interested in exploring careers in Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Fire Service, or Law Enforcement, where teamwork, leadership, and calm decision-making are essential.
  • Community members seeking to volunteer with local response teams or civic organizations.

Offered regularly throughout the year, EMS 102 provides a supportive, team-focused learning environment where every student becomes an empowered responder. No prior experience is required—just a desire to help others and make a difference when it matters most.
