Supporting Local Education and Workforce Training
Allan Hancock College plays an important role in providing local access to higher education and job training. The college supports workforce preparation in healthcare, public safety, and skilled trades that serve Northern Santa Barbara County.

Supporting Students, Workforce, and Community Needs
Local Funding to Prepare Students for In-Demand Careers and Trades
In June of 2026, the Allan Hancock College Board of Trustees voted to place a $290M bond measure on the November 2026 ballot to address facility needs and ensure local students and veterans have access to affordable, high-quality education and job training in safe, modern facilities, including:
- Removing hazardous materials like asbestos and mold from older buildings
- Upgrading classrooms, career-training facilities, and equipment so students are prepared for in-demand careers and skilled trades
- Providing classrooms, facilities, and technology needed to support high quality instruction in math, science, engineering, and technology programs
- Building a University Center to offer four-year bachelor’s degrees locally in nursing and business in partnership with Cal Poly and Cal State Channel Islands
- Repairing and replacing deteriorating roofs, plumbing, heating, ventilation, gas lines, sewer lines, and electrical systems where needed
A bond measure will also qualify Allan Hancock College for $38 million in state matching funds that would otherwise go to other community colleges.
The bond measure would cost homeowners no more than $19 per $100,000 of a property's assessed (not market) value annually, for so long as bonds are outstanding. The typical homeowner would pay ~$70 annually.
Mandatory Fiscal Accountability and Local Control
By State law, a bond measure requires the following strict fiscal accountability protections:
- All funds are controlled locally and stay in our community to improve local Hancock facilities; no bond funds could be taken away by the State or used for other purposes
- Independent citizens’ oversight committee, annual audits, and public spending disclosures
- No money could be used for administrators’ salaries or pensions
