Noncredit ELD Courses

These courses are designed to help students use beginning grammatical forms in reading, writing, and oral contexts.

  • ELDN 7400 - Spanish Literacy 1
    • This is a low-beginning literacy course that develops Spanish literacy skills.
  • ELDN 7410 - Spanish Literacy 2
    • This is a low-beginning literacy course that continues the development of Spanish literacy.
  • ELDN 7420 - Newcomer 
    • This course is intended for students with limited-to-no academic background. 
  • ELDN 7430 - Low Beginning 
    • Students develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities for life, academic, and career skills. 
  • ELDN 7440 - High Beginning
    • Students develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities for life, academic, and career skills. 
  • ELDN 7450 - Beginning Conversation
    • Build your confidence in speaking English! Practice the conversational skills needed in real-life situations and daily tasks.

    • Students develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities for life, academic, and career skills. 
  • ELDN 7470 - High Intermediate
    • Students develop high-intermediate listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities for life, academic, and career skills.
  • ELDN 7480 - Intermediate Conversation
    • Build your confidence in speaking English! Practice the conversational skills needed in real-life situations and daily tasks. 
  • ELDN 7501 - Intermediate Grammar
    • This course is designed to help students use basic grammatical forms in reading, writing, and oral/aural contexts.
  • ELDN 7511 - High Intermediate Conversation
    • This course prepares students to understand and speak English at the high intermediate level.
  • ELDN 7521 - High Intermediate Reading
    • This course is designed to help high intermediate ESL students develop academic reading skills. 
  • ELDN 7531 - High Intermediate Writing
    • This course is designed to help high intermediate ESL students develop academic writing skills at the paragraph and short-essay level.

  • ELDN 7502 - Low Advanced Grammar
    • This course is designed to help students understand and use intermediate grammatical forms in reading, writing, and oral/aural contexts
  • ELDN 7503 - Advanced Grammar
    • This course is designed to help students understand and use advanced grammatical forms in reading, writing, and oral/aural contexts. 
  • ELDN 7512 - Low Advanced Conversation
    • This course prepares students to understand and speak English at the low advanced level.
  • ELDN 7513 - Pronunciation
    • A pronunciation skills course for all levels of language learners
  • ELDN 7522 - Low Advanced Reading
    • This course is designed to help low advanced ESL students develop academic reading skills. 
  • ELDN 7523 - Advanced Reading
    • ELDN 7523 uses fiction and nonfiction texts to develop reading skills and strategies.
  • ELDN 7532 - Low Advanced Writing
    • This course is designed to help low advanced ESL students develop academic writing skills at the short essay level.
  • ELDN 7533 - Advanced Writing
    • Designed to help students critically analyze texts to use in support of a well-organized, thesis-based essay.

Certificate of Competency

The Noncredit English Langauge Development Certificates are designed for non-native English-speaking students who want to read, write, listen, and speak in English at the beginning and intermediate levels. 

Basic English Language Development Certificate

Basic ELD certificate requirements:

  • ELDN 7440 - High Beginning
  • ELDN 7450 - Beginning Conversation
  • One Elective
    • Choose a course from the Beginning ELDN list in addition to the required.

Intermediate English Language Development Certificate

Intermediate ELD Certificate Requirements:

  • ELDN 7470 - High Intermediate
  • ELDN 7480 - Intermediate Conversation
  • One Elective
    • Choose a course from the Intermediate ELDN list in addition to the required.
