Admissions Procedure

In order to be considered for the Dental Assisting program, you must apply to the program during the application period. The application period is March 15 - May 31. The application will only be available during application period. 

To apply to the program:

  • Complete and turn in an application during application period
  • Be age 18 on the first day of class in August (required by California Codes - Business and Professions Code Section 2069-2071) You will need to turn in proof of age.
  • Submit a copy of your high school diploma, high school transcript or GED certificate showing completion/graduation date.
  • Submit a copy of your AHC unofficial transcript (printed from your myHancock portal) showing completion of English 101 with a grade of "C" or better. You may turn in an application if you are currently (Spring) taking Eng 101 at time of application.
    • If you have taken English 101 at any other college, your equivalent course transcript must be processed through the Admission Department, Transcriber. 

This program is approved by the California Board of Dental Examiners.  This two -semester program (fall and spring) provides technical skills needed for employment in a dental office.  The student develops skills needed to contribute as a member of a dental health team in general chairside, specialty procedures, office management and x-ray techniques.

A grade of "C" or better in the designated dental assisting classes are required to move forward in the program.

Upon successful completion of the program, students receive a certificate in x-ray license and in coronal polishing.  They are then eligible to take the California Registered Dental Assistants Exam.  Students may also earn an Associate in Science Degree in dental assisting.  Contact your counselor for more information.

Incomplete applications will not be accepted.  Completed applications will be placed on a list and a randomized lottery will assign a number to every applicant on the list.  The first 24 students will be excepted into the program and a waitlist will be maintained up until the mandatory orientation (Mid-July).  It is highly possible you could be called to accept a spot in the program. 

Entrance Requirements

Once accepted into the Dental Assisting Program you will be emailed an acceptance packet that will require the following:

  • Complete Background Check and Drug Screening (required by clinical agencies utilized for externship) - Instructions will be included in the packet.
  • Complete Health Physical and Immunization Record (all childhood immunizations) (required by clinical agencies utilized for externship) - Instructions/form will be included in the packet.
  • CPR - Instructions will be included with you packet, this course is taken in the summer during the mandatory orientation.  The program will give you the course information to register for.
