Hancock to Welcome Nearly 2,000 High School Students for Career Exploration Day

Hancock's 15th annual Career Exploration Day on Oct. 4 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Santa Maria campus

Career Exploration Day SEPTEMBER 27, 2019 -- Allan Hancock College will host nearly 2,000 local high school students and more than 100 local businesses at its 15th annual Career Exploration Day on Oct. 4 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Santa Maria campus.

The event will take place outside the Math and Science Complex (bldg. M) on the north side of the Santa Maria Campus. Career Exploration Day will include exhibitors from a variety of industries and career programs on the Central Coast. Current Hancock students and members of the community are also invited to attend.

“Career Exploration Day is a great opportunity for high school and college students to get exposed to a wide variety of career opportunities,” said Hancock Career Center and K-12 Partnerships Project Director Thomas Lamica. “They get to talk directly with employers to find out what kind of education and training they’ll need in order to get the career they want. We are very excited to be able to bring these two groups together, and help these students start down the path to future employment.”

Hancock also received confirmation that close to 2,000 local high school students will be in attendance. Those students will get the opportunity to sign up for one of 47 tours that will take them to specific areas on campus where they can explore career-related programs in industrial technology, auto body, fine arts, early childhood studies, health sciences and more.

“The tours can help expose students to programs they might be interested in and to possible career paths they may want to pursue,” said Lamica.

Many of the high school students participating in Career Exploration Day also qualify to receive the Hancock Promise, which provides students who enroll at Hancock immediately after graduating from a high school located in the Allan Hancock Joint Community College District with the opportunity to get their first year of tuition and fees covered.

Students who attended the event will also be provided with food and entertainment, including performances from students in Hancock's dance program.
