Hancock Community Education Gives In-Person Help for Summer Class Registration

Four workshops offered May 23, 24, 31 and June 1

CERegistrationWorkshopsMAY 15, 2017--Registration is now open for nearly 130 free noncredit courses this summer at Allan Hancock College that begin the week of June 12. Because using the new statewide online registration system can be challenging for some students, the college is offering four days of workshops to provide in-person assistance with registration.

“It makes the process less intimidating for all students,” said Elaine Healy, coordinator of community education at Hancock.  “We’ve found that the transition with the new registration system has caused some confusion and even frustration for our students, and the last thing we want is for people to not enroll in these great free classes because of difficulty registering.”

Community Education classes available include: business skills, computers, English as a Second Language, GED test preparation, Microsoft programs, quilting, photography, and more. Available classes can be found online by visiting www.hancockcollege.edu and clicking Class Search.

The registration workshops will take place at the Santa Maria campus in the Community Education building (bldg. S) on May 23, 24, 31, and June 1. There will also be workshops at the Allan Hancock College Lompoc Valley Center on May 23 and June 1, and at the Solvang Center on May 23 and 31. Anyone who needs help with registration can drop in between 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

“This is a great way for noncredit students to get guidance in enrolling and registering, and finish it in one day,” said Healy.

Students will need to bring their Social Security or ITIN numbers and a payment method for class fees. Parking is free and snacks will be provided.

Students who do not attend the registration workshops can still register online now, or receive registration assistance in person at Community Education (bldg. S) on the Santa Maria campus. New students and those without a user name and password must first apply for admission to the college before registering for classes. To access the online admission application, click Apply & Register and then select the appropriate admission form.
