Say Olé to Folklorico!

Open auditions will be held Feb. 13.

FEBRUARY 5, 2014 -- The Allan Hancock College dance program is seeking dancers for its annual Folklorico! Concert.  Auditions for this year’s concert will be held Thursday, Feb. 13, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Santa Maria campus dance studio, building D, room D-118.  Auditions are open to the public.

Folklorico has been taught at Allan Hancock College for many years as part of the dance program.  Folkloric dance celebrates the rich, vibrant culture of Mexico’s various regions.  A variety of styles exists, with each representing a particular region’s unique culture, history, folklore, costumes and music.

Those selected to perform in the concert enroll in DANC 180, Performance Laboratory, a three-credit dance performance class.  The enrollment fee is $138; other minimal fees may apply.  Registration information will be available during auditions.  Women should bring or wear skirts, and both genders should wear appropriate footwear.

The annual Folklorico! Dance Concert will be held May 1-3 in the Severson Theatre, located in the Santa Maria campus Performing Arts Center.
