MAY 3, 2013 -- Five Allan Hancock College softball players were named All-Conference for the 2013 season.  Freshmen Nathalia Powell, Michaela Valencia, Tawny Nunes and Kristine Ramos were named first team All-Conference and sophomore Marissa Perez was named second team.

“This was a monumental growth year for the Bulldog softball program,” said Hancock head softball coach Scia Maumausolo.  “We were blessed with a phenomenal group of ladies who were never satisfied and truly enjoyed working together.”

Powell led the conference in pitching with 18 wins and 107 strikeouts, while batting .472 in conference play.  Valencia hit 12 homeruns and finished the season with 56 runs, 53 hits and 28 stolen bases, along with a .829 overall slugging percentage and a .411 batting average.  Nunes led the team in RBI’s with 47 and was ranked second in the conference.  She finished the season with 32 runs, 52 hits and 28 stolen bases.  Ramos led the state in stolen bases with 49.  She also had 43 hits and scored 43 runs.  All four players will be returning next season.

“We’re keeping a core group of talented players and adding talented recruits in the fall and we’re extremely excited to get back to work,” Maumausolo said.

Perez was an All-Conference honorable mention as a freshman and improved to second team this season.  She finished the season with seven doubles and had a total of 25 runs, 33 hits and 24 RBI’s.

“Marissa is a determined young lady and will be successful in her future endeavors,” Maumausolo said.  “The thing we’ll miss most about Marissa will not only be her ability to mash, but her ability to make a group of people fall into tears of laughter.”
