Hancock Teams Up With Toys for Tots at Annual Tournament

Free entry to Lady Bulldog Classic with donation of toy!

DECEMBER 4, 2013 -- Bulldogs fans have a chance to see their hometown team win and help local families in need at the same time.  The Allan Hancock College women’s basketball team is getting into the holiday spirit by teaming up with the Toys for Tots Foundation of Santa Barbara County during its annual Lady Bulldog Classic.  The three-day tournament opens at the Joe White Memorial Gymnasium on Thursday, Dec. 12, at 1 p.m., and ends on Saturday, Dec. 14.

Fans who bring an unwrapped toy worth $10 or more receive a tournament pass worth $15 for entry to all three days of the Lady Bulldog Classic.  Toys for Tots is collecting toys for children up to 17 years old.  Volunteers say there is increased need for assistance this year.  They plan to distribute toys to 500 families in the Santa Maria area and 3,500 families throughout Santa Barbara County this holiday.  They expect to distribute more than 20,000 toys to children in need.

Santa Barbara City College is back to defend its title.  The Bulldogs also welcome Cuesta, Saddleback, Barstow, Reedley, Marin and Lassen colleges.  Cuesta and Saddleback are scheduled to play the tournament opener on Thursday, Dec. 12, at 1 p.m.  Santa Barbara and Reedley are set to follow at 3 p.m., with Barstow and Marin to tip off at 5 p.m.  The host Bulldogs face Lassen at 7 p.m. in their first tournament game.

Games on Friday are set for 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.  The action ends on Saturday with the consolation game at 1 p.m., the third place battle slated for 3 p.m., and the championship game at 5 p.m.
