California Dream Act "Steps to College" Conference Being Held at Allan Hancock College

A special conference for high school and college students who are eligible for the AB540 Affidavit will take place Saturday, Oct. 27, at Allan Hancock College.  Sponsored by the Central Coast California Student Opportunity and Access program (Cal-SOAP), this California Dream Act Steps to College Conference 2012 will take place from 8 a.m. to 12 noon in the Marian Theatre, located in the Santa Maria campus’s Performing Arts Center, bldg. D.

Parents are highly encouraged to attend, and special seating will be available for high school counselors and other school personnel.  The presentation will be in both English and Spanish.

The event will feature

  • college and university representatives from UC, CSU, community colleges and private colleges and universities.
  • a review of the California Dream Act Application.
  • information about scholarship opportunities.
  • college admission and career information.

Cal-SOAP is a state and federal program designed to assist first generation and low-income students.  The Central Coast Cal-SOAP Consortium was established in 2001 and serves students in five school districts and two community colleges in North Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties.  Central Coast Cal-SOAP is one of 15 consortia throughout California serving more than 150,000 students.  It is one of the largest outreach programs of its kind in California.
