According to the Basic Skills Initiative (2007), funded by the CCC Chancellor’s Office, “70 to 80% of students in the CCC [need] work in developmental mathematics and English courses.” These same students take courses across the disciplines and rely on inadequate writing skills to get them through. The Writing Center at Allan Hancock College created this site as a resource for faculty from any discipline interested in addressing student writing in their course(s). These links contain helpful resources for teaching writing, creating writing assignments in any discipline, and sample assignments that you may use in your classes.
The links and documents presented here are just a start. We welcome any additions: any internet sites you think are useful, any documents you use with your students, any articles you read. Please send them on to the Writing Center Coordinator at kunderwood@hancockcollege.edu.
