Henry M. Grennan

Area 1 trustee (central
and northern Santa Maria)
Henry Grennan of Santa Maria was appointed in February 2000,
elected to a four-year term in November 2000, and reelected to his
second term in November 2004. In December 2004, he was elected to
his second term as president of the board, having served as vice
president in 2002 and 2003. Mr. Grennan was a teacher, principal
and administrator during a 35-year career in education in the Santa
Maria area. He is currently coordinator for the teacher credential
program at Chapman University. An Allan Hancock College graduate,
Mr. Grennan earned bachelor of science and master of arts degrees
in education from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
(Area 1 covers northern Santa Maria from the river on the north
to Main Street on the south, (plus Hancock Park down to Jones Street),
and is bounded by Suey Road on the east and Bonita Road on the west.)

Tim Bennett

Area 2 trustee
Area 2 trustee (southeast Santa Maria)
Tim Bennett, representative for the southeast area of Santa Maria,
was elected to a four-year term in November 2004. Mr. Bennett has
been a union electrician since 1981 and became a business representative
for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) local
union 413 in 2001. Prior to becoming an electrician he was a professional
musician. He attended Santa Maria schools, including Santa Maria High
School, before completing the electrical apprenticeship training program
offered through Allan Hancock College. He has taught in the apprenticeship
program off and on since 1998. Bennett is a member of the Elks and
Eagles organizations.
(Area 2 covers portions of Santa Maria and Orcutt, which are
east of Broadway (Hwy 135), plus the Santa Maria country club area.
Except for territory in Area 1, the Santa Maria River is the north
boundary. The area runs east to include Sisquoc and Cuyama and into
Ventura and San Luis Obispo counties in the Cuyama area. Rice Ranch
Road is the south boundary.)

(southern Santa Maria Valley, Casmalia, Los Alamos)
Larry Lahr, president of the Allan Hancock Joint Community College
District Board of Trustees, has been representative for the southern
Santa Maria Valley, Casmalia, and Los Alamos area since he was elected
to his first four-year term in 1994. He was elected vice president
in December 2004, and served as president of the board in 2000 and
2001, and vice president in 1999. He is president of Rincon Corp.,
a Central Coast company providing real estate, brokerage, management
and consulting services to agricultural clientele, and board chairman
for Integrated Composites, Inc., a Marina, California, company specializing
in design, development and manufacturing of products made with advanced
composite materials. He attended Allan Hancock College before earning
a bachelor's degree at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, in agricultural
business management.
(Area 3 is bounded by Main Street on the north, Hwy 135 on
the east (except country club area), and continues south to include
Los Alamos and Vandenberg Village. The communities of Guadalupe
and Casmalia are included, with the western boundary being the ocean.)

Bernard Jones

Vice President
(Lompoc Valley) Bernard Jones of Lompoc was elected to
a four-year term in November 2004. Mr. Jones is a senior engineer
with General Dynamics. He was the first Black American to graduate
from Southwest Texas State University with a degree in physics. He
also has a master's degree in public administration from the University
of Houston. As a 22-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Jones received
numerous medals and decorations, but said he is proudest of his Humanitarian
Services Medal for service during the Cuban refugee boatlift in 1980
and medals he received while working with space shuttle astronauts
while at Johnson Space Center in Houston.
(Area 4 includes the city of Lompoc south of the Santa Ynez River
to boundary of VAFB on the west and to Hwy 101 on the east. South
to ocean from Jalama Beach Park to Gaviota Beach State Park.) |

Carol
Anders of Solvang has been the Allan Hancock Joint Community College
Board of Trustees representative for the Santa Ynez Valley, northern
Lompoc Valley, and Channel Islands since her appointment in May 1998.
She was elected to her first four-year term in November 1998, and
also served as board vice president in 2000 and 2001, and president
in 2002 and 2003. A member of the Solvang City Council from 1990-1994
and mayor of Solvang in 1992, Mrs. Anders has also been a member of
the Solvang Planning Commission, and chairperson of the Local Area
Formation Commission. A registered nurse and past director of health
care services at the Solvang Lutheran Home, Mrs. Anders was honored
as Santa Ynez Valley Woman of the Year for 2000.
(Area 5 contains the Santa Ynez Valley including the communities
of Solvang, Buellton, Los Olivos, and Santa Ynez and extending east
into Ventura County. The area extends west to include Vandenberg Village
(south of Lompoc-Casmalia Road and north of the river) and all of
VAFB. Territory extends south to the ocean from Gaviota Beach State
Park to El Capitan State Park and includes the Channel Islands.)

The Allan Hancock Joint Community College District is
situated in northern Santa Barbara, the Channel Islands and small
portions of San Luis Obispo and Ventura counties on the eastern part
of the district. The district boundaries encompass the territory
of the high school districts of Santa Maria Union, Cuyama, Lompoc
Unified and Santa Ynez. Trustee area boundaries were reapportioned
on Aug. 26, 1993. |
