The Fire Technology/Fire Academy and Wildland Fire Technology programs are responsible for fire service training in three college districts and
two counties. Our courses are taught from Paso Robles to Carpinteria. These courses
are for pre-service and in-service students.
The Fire Technology degree/certificate program is designed to prepare you for a career
in the fire service, either public or private, upgrade your skills as an in-service
fire professional in your present position or prepare you for promotional opportunities.
Courses focus on demonstrating safety and efficiency in emergency and fire situations,
analyzing the causes of fires and how to fight them, applicable laws, regulations
and codes, building construction types and conditions associated with structural collapse
and firefighter safety, and understanding fire detection and suppression systems.
Fire service history, culture and diversity are also covered to educate you in all
aspects of the firefighter career path.
Acceptance into the Fire Academy is by an application process. Fall applications are available during the month of March and Spring applications
are available during October. Prospective cadets are evaluated on the basis of their
college and fire experience. The top people are offered enrollment in the class.

"My experience in Allan Hancock College's Fire Academy was phenomenal. I received a top-notch education from experienced instructors who were dedicated to training the next generation of firefighters. The hands-on training we received in the college's state-of-the-art facility was an amazing opportunity and prepared me for my current job as a firefighter for the Atascadero department of fire and emergency services."
