According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (bls.gov), the median annual wages of social and human service assistants in May 2008 was $27,280. The job outlook is expected to be good, with employment growing much faster than average. Social and human service assistants held about 352,000 jobs in 2008. More than 65 percent were employed in the healthcare and social assistance industries and state and local governments employed almost 24 percent.

  • Drug and alcohol treatment and prevention
  • Family services
  • Parenting education
  • Social service eligibility workers
  • Youth shelters
  • Community health care
  • Juvenile corrections
  • Case management services
