Welcome to the Allan Hancock College New Student Orientation.

Our goal is to make you aware of the student services available to you and to be sure you successfully enroll in classes. For more in-depth information, there is contact information at the end of this orientation which provides Web links to different college departments. The staff in student services is always available to help. This orientation focuses on ten key questions. If you don’t get the answer right the first time, just choose a different answer until you find the right one.

Counseling

Counselors are available to assist you with:

1. interpreting START placement results
2. choosing a major and selecting courses
3. creating a student education plan (SEP) and exploring career goals
4. referring you to services and instructional departments
5. graduation, certificate, and degree requirements

You should schedule an appointment with a counselor to discuss all of your specific needs.

What if you believe your placement scores are too low?

The process to challenge your placement scores in English and/or mathematics begins with the dean of counseling and matriculation who has the necessary forms. His office is in the counseling department on the Santa Maria campus.

Catalog Rights

Students are strongly advised to purchase a college catalog. Once you begin your studies toward a specific degree or certificate program, the requirements within that catalog will not change for you if you do not have a break in your enrollment. However, if a future catalog has changes that work better for you, you can switch to that one.
