Blackboard Instructions
Blackboard is the course management system used by most distance
learning instructors for instructional activities. Many distance
learning instructors require students to attend an on-campus
orientation before allowing access to Blackboard. Check the
Distance Learning Classes orientation section of the Schedule
for orientation dates and times.

Blackboard Key-Features:
Your instructor may utilize some or all of the following
Blackboard features. They may also rename buttons. For example,
Course Documents might be renamed Lecture Notes.
| Announcements |
Look in Announcements
for time-sensitive course information, such as a change
in deadline or a reminder of an upcoming class chat.
You can view the instructor’s announcements by Day,
Week, Month, or All by using the appropriate tab. |
| Course Documents |
The Course Documents
section might contains the majority of your course
content, such as readings and lecture notes. |
| Discussion Board |
The Discussion Board
allows you to post messages for everyone in your class.
You may choose to use the Discussion Board to ask
for clarification on assignments, facilitate debate
on course related issues, post relevant links, or
to pose questions relating to course material, upcoming
tests and exams. |
| Assignments |
This is the area of
your course where you can pick up and hand in Assignments.
We recommend that you use RTF format for your documents,
and please remember that you >cannot have spaces
in your filenames. |
| Tests and Exams |
You will find the tests,
quizzes and exams for your course here. They may be
multiple choice, T/F, short answer, matching items
or essay style evaluations. |
| Tools |
This is where you can
edit your Home Page, change personal information,
view your grades and gain access to the student manual
for Blackboard. |
| Staff Information |
Your instructor may
choose to post a brief biography here, or they may
choose to introduce themselves in the Discussion area. |
| Course Map |
The Course Map is an
interactive table of contents used to easily locate
items within your Blackboard course. The Course Map
button can be found at the bottom of the main menu
on the left hand side of your screen. |
Logging out
It is important that you use the Logout button to end each
of your Blackboard sessions. This is especially important
if you are using a public computer. Also, when using a public
computer, we highly recommend that you quit the web browser
completely when finished, to ensure that you have logged out
of your Blackboard Section.
