Assessment for Distance Education Students

All students taking classes at Allan Hancock College, even over the Internet, must meet the assessment requirement. The test we require for placement into classes is the Accuplacer test. It is delivered on the computer over the Internet, however, you cannot take the test at home or in an un-proctored environment.

Students unable to come to campus to test may find a proctor at a nearby college or university, high school, military facility, or other educational institution.

Off-Campus Placement Testing
Available by filling out the Proctoring Request Form (opens in new window)

1. Contact a local college or university testing center that has Internet access. Ask them if they would be willing to administer our assessment test which is approximately 2 hours long. Be sure to ask if they will charge you any fees for this service; most college's will not charge for administering the Accuplacer test.

2. Contact the Allan Hancock College Testing Center at (805) 922-6966 x3365 to request that you take the Accuplacer placement test at another site. Please provide the Name of the proctor, Institution name, address, and telephone number.

3. Allan Hancock College will contact the proctor and verify that they are able to administer the test to you. We will then send them the instructions for administering the test.

4. Arrange a day and time to take the test.

5. You should contact a counselor at Allan Hancock College for your placement scores.
