Welcome to Distance Learning!

Distance learning classes at Allan Hancock College offer the opportunity to earn college credits via the internet. Some distance learning classes require no on-site activities while others require limited on-site attendance, typically orientation, midterms and finals. Go to the class search and click the CRN number for more information.

How do I sign up?

All students enrolling in distance learning courses register online. All fees listed in the Credit Classes section of the Schedule of Classes are applicable to distance learning classes.

Register early!  Many classes are filled well in advance of the registration deadline.

How do I know what I am supposed to be doing?

After registering, students enrolled in distance learning courses usually attend an orientation session where they will receive information regarding course requirements, examination schedules, instructor conferences, and review sessions. Orientation information is included in the CRN number of the class search. If a student registers after the orientation session, he or she must contact the instructor immediately. Faculty phone numbers and email addresses should be listed in the College Directory on AHC's home page.

Are online classes just like regular on-campus courses?

It is important to remember that online courses are equivalent to the classroom-based version in course content, textbooks, required assignments and study time. The main difference is in the delivery method. Students who successfully complete online learning courses tend to agree that those classes were similar in workload to classroom-based courses. Distance learning classes place more responsibility on the student to be self-disciplined and to apply solid independent study skills. Find out if distance learning is for you by clicking here.

Do I have to come to campus to buy my textbook?

  • Textbooks for distance learning courses can be ordered online or textbooks can be purchased on campus at the AHC bookstore.
