Student Services
 Testing Center

The Testing Center is located on the Santa Maria campus and also offers testing at the Lompoc Valley Center. Many students need to take the START placement test before registering for classes; a photo ID is required and you will need to have your AHC Student ID number that begins with the letter 'H' for the test. This number is assigned to you after you complete the admission application. Check the START date schedule to the right for a list of test dates and times.

The Testing Center supports matriculation by providing an orientation to the college and assessment in reading, writing, and mathematics to all new Hancock students. Computerized assessment for English as a second language credit classes is also provided. In addition, students may test for the GED, and "ability-to-benefit" test for financial aid.

Residents living within the district may arrange testing for distance learning courses taken through other colleges/universities for a fee. College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) is offered for a fee. All students taking the Accuplacer test for a college other than AHC will be charged a proctoring fee and will need to bring a check for $25 payable to AHC at the time of testing. The test is free only for AHC students.

START Placement Test: All students must complete the AHC Admissions Application and receive their Student ID number before they can take the START placement test; this test is only for AHC students. Students who live in San Luis Obispo need to take the placement test on the Santa Maria campus. If you live out of the Santa Maria area and need to take the START test in your local community, (cities north of SLO or south of Santa Ynez), click here (opens in new window).
