In order to qualify for admission to the California State University as an upper-division transfer student, you must meet the following minimum requirements:
Beginning with the fall 2005 admission cycle, all CSU campuses require completion of 60 or more transferable semester college units. Information on CSU transferability of Allan Hancock College courses is available at www.assist.org. Have earned a grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 (C) or better (2.40 for non-California residents) at the time of application in all transferable college units completed and maintained this GPA standard up until time of transfer(see application filing period information below). Are in good standing at the last college or university attended. Have completed or will complete prior to transfer at least 30 semester units of courses equivalent to general education requirements with a grade of C of better. The 30 units must include all of the general education requirements in Area A (Written & Oral Communication and Critical Thinking) and at least one course from Area B4 (Mathematical Concepts and Quantitative Reasoning) with grades of "C" or better ("C-" is not acceptable) prior to transfer. Many CSU campuses require the completion of these courses by the end of spring semester prior to fall transfer or by the end of summer semester prior to winter/spring transfer. Some campuses are requiring completion and certification of all 39 units of the CSU GE pattern prior to transfer - see a transfer counselor for specific campus information. Students who will have completed less than 60 transferable semester college units are considered lower division transfer students. Many CSU campuses will only admit upper division transfer students and others may give admission priority to these students. If you want to transfer as a lower-division transfer student, you must check with a counselor for eligibility or visit www.csumentor.edu. Unless you are entering a "high unit" major such as engineering, it is highly recommended that you complete one of the general education transfer patterns at Allan Hancock College and get "G. E. certified" prior to transfer. Students transferring to a California State University have the option of following either the CSU General Education pattern or the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) pattern. However, if you intend to transfer into a major that requires extensive lower division major preparation units, such as engineering, science, math, or computer science, you should concentrate on completing major preparation coursework and Area A of the CSU GE pattern (Written Composition, Critical Thinking, and Speech). Your counselor can advise you on what path is best for you. Transfer applicants are evaluated, in part, on the basis of their performance in major preparation coursework, so it is important that you investigate the requirements for your intended major as soon as possible. You may do this by visiting www.assist.org. If your major requires extensive mathematics and science coursework, it is especially important that you begin taking this coursework as early as possible in order to complete as much as possible before transferring. Lack of lower division preparatory major coursework may affect your ability to register for upper division coursework in your major or your ability to effectively compete for admissions if there are limited number of spaces available in your major at your chosen CSU campus. In order to effectively compete for admission to impacted campuses such as Cal Poly - San Luis Obispo, CSU Long Beach, and San Diego State University or to impacted majors such as nursing, computer science, and business administration striving to earn a competitive GPA is very important. You must also file your application during the initial filling period. The initial application filing periods are: October 1 through November 30 for fall semester or quarter February 1-28 for summer quarter June 1-30 for winter quarter August 1-31 for spring semester or quarter PLEASE NOTE: Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo has historically not accepted applications for the spring quarter; San Diego State University has historically only accepted applications for fall term; and only a few CSU campuses accept applications for summer semester/quarter. |
