| What is SpaceTEC®?
SpaceTEC® , the National Science Foundation’s Center for Excellence for Aerospace Technical Education, serves as a focal point for post-secondary aerospace technical education to address the nation’s critical need to recruit, develop and retain highly skilled aerospace professionals. Operating in facilities at the Kennedy Space Center, SpaceTEC® enjoys unparalleled support among 11 post-secondary institutions in ten states, NASA, the Air Force, the Federal Aviation Administration, and giants of the aerospace and defense industries. A result of such unprecedented collaboration includes the delivery of an national, industry-acclaimed Certified Aerospace Technician™ program by which qualifying candidates undergo a rigorous two-part examination consisting of an online written test and an oral and practical (hands-on) performance test administered by a certified SpaceTEC® Examiner.
What is the relationship between Allan Hancock College and SpaceTEC®?
Since SpaceTEC®’s inception in 2002, Allan Hancock College has been a proud partner in the SpaceTEC® consortium of colleges and universities. With its close proximity to Vandenberg Air Force Base, site of numerous space and missile testing and launch activities related to the placement of satellites into precise polar orbit, Allan Hancock College promotes local workforce development through an associate of science degree and certificate option in Electronics Technology with an Emphasis in Space Operations . Curriculum development of this degree and certificate program was largely supported by National Science Foundation SpaceTEC® funding.
For Space Operations program graduates and other qualifying candidates for certification , Allan Hancock College serves as an authorized SpaceTEC® Certified Aerospace Technician™ test center. To date, 20 individuals have achieved SpaceTEC® core aerospace certification through Allan Hancock College.
Attention, High School Students
High school students may simultaneously earn high school and college credit through Allan Hancock College’s CollegeNow! program. Courses in the Space Operations degree and certificate program which are open to enrollment by high schools students include
